The idea to make this journey was born last summer when Slobodan went to a seven-day-cruising with Sreta, Mirko and Ares. Then he tried all he had dreamt about, and for which he had taken so many actions to make it work. Tonči and I were hoping quietly all that time, that idea would come true for mutual satisfaction. For a few last years this sailing has really been one of our greatest passions and we simply fluttered with a thought that we would experience it at last. We didn’t talk much about it, because it seemed too beautiful to be true, as people usually say. But, in the middle of August of the year of 1996 four enthusiasts set off from the quay and entered into a direct contact with the object of their dreams.

With “Urbanism” against architecture

Interdisciplinary character of urbanism as a profession is out of question. According to it, they are almost synonyms. But it is disputable, when different people, considering themselves so „Renaissance”, dare make so complicated documents, and they think it is not necessary to contact local authorities, sociologists, development forecasters, and not even architects, because they can do that on their own. Even if they do contact them, it is enough for one small town, and the „copy-paste“ method will solve the problem to the others. Although urbanism anticipates all the rest, I would say a few words about a component of architectural limits and definitions within those plans.

Croatian coast – return to the future

With the fact that we exist we have found ourselves on the way of the time direction, made up of an endless line of points – units of time. We are living a point of a time direction and we have great responsibility to follow it (follow the order), otherwise the past and future eyes will spot, that in this time of ours a disorder happened and that we were not able to transmit the inherited order.

Space is a category that requires a very careful, gentleman-like relation towards itself. In Australian museums beside specially valuable exposits it is written: „Touch with Your eyes only, which should be applied to the space too. It needs cautious conquering, according to an old saying “measure three times, cut out once”. First we have to ensure the ways to be able to “flow” through the space, and after that, micro-spaces for different types of human activities, from living, working to leisure. Ways should be wide to satisfy both vehicular and pedestrian traffic and plots so big, that people staying on them still feel that they are in space, and not tied up. And these are some bases of urbanism, which seem so logical and easy to follow. Since the Second World War great non-understanding of that basic logic has happened on the Croatian coast and we are facing its consequences today.
